Fashion cell phones always give us many different things. For example a qualified screen, glossy material, a camera with ‘strange’ mechanism, and touch interface. Then, whether Samsung have it ? The answer is yes, they have .

Samsung S8300 Ultra Touch is the first Samsung’s cell phone which has these futuristic technologies. Samsung claimed that it’s not only a fashion cell phone because by ultra touch, it would give us more. The question next, what is ultra touch ?

Design

Samsung S8300 is a cell phone with slider theme. It also bring touchscreen, but only has alphanumeric keypad with navigation buttons. So, we could use this keypad for typing sms, phone number or email. Then for navigating, we use touchscreen directly. The place where d-pad is always located, is used for back button. So when slider is closed, the interface would be the same with iPhone.

Just like almost Ultra product, S8300 has slim body. At least for a slider and touchscreen cell phone, it looks slim and elegant. The consequences is there is no more hot swap for the memmory card. The space for memmory card is placed beside SIM card. So, we have to turn off the cell phone and remove the battery to install the card.

The other thing, we would find that charger, data and audio port are there in one port, with small and thin size.

Looking at the body, it’s designed glamour by combination of doff , glossy and metalic touch. There are two choices for keypad and backside of the screen colour, red and blue. Other part is dominated by elegant black colour as Samsung cellphone characteristic.

Interface and Widget
touchscreen in S8300 use new technology named AMOLED (Active Matric Organic Light Emitting Diode). In other word, this is kind of OLED screen which has same characteristic with TFT, but with a cheaper production cost and more save energy. Then how about the quality ?

For those who familiar with conventional TFT LCD, you probably would be a little dissappointed. It because of light fluorescent on AMOLED screen only work effectively in colour side. So the outside area wouldn’t be lightened and appear dark. It is a general characteristic of OLED. But by 16 million depth colours, wide QVGA (240 X 400 pixel) resolution, and active matrix, the colour area picture would be sharper.

About appearances, AMOLED is still under level of TFT LCD, so, it seems that Samsung have to make more improvement in this side. Information for you, Samsung applied this technology on their LCD monitor and their new television product by High Definition technology.

Well, about menu interface, S8300 use TouchWiz. Do you still remember with Samsung Omnia or F400 interface ? Yeah, that would be the same with Ultra Touch interface. Beside providing some menu with different function, availabled also 36 widgets for us.

In default position, these widgets are hidden in drop down menu in the left side. We could move them on the main display only by drag them directly. Some widgets probably we really need such as facebook and friendster.

Camera

Recently, Samsung often released qualified camera cellphones in the world market including Samsung S8300. S8300 come with a high technology of software and hardware. Yeah, S8300 bring the same lens with Innov8 including dual LED flash light. Then, the software side, almost all professional setting were brought by this cell phone. But, unfortunately, the camera setting is unfamilliar with many user, but after several of use I’m sure you wouldn’t have any difficulty.

The key features are face detection, antishake, smile hot, macro shot, etc. we could manage the ISO setting manually. And the result is satisfied enough. For taking pictures indoor area, we don’t need addition light. The dual LED flash light is very friendly for short distance. For some camera which bring Xenon and some cell phone which use LED light sometimes left much light impressions when they’re used in short distance.

When we use S8300 for take pictures outdoor area, the results are amazing, sharp and bright. Even from focus point until surround object area. It remind us to Innov8 camera which has appreciated as the best camera cellphone.

Video recorder
the capacity to record video in MP4 format is also amazing. With 720 x 480 resolutions, the result is very soft and sharp. This resolution is big enough even for watching television. Just like we’ve know, this resolution is one of HD streaming video such HD You Tube.

Beside that, the camera is also provided video recorder in slow motion (120 fps) and fast motion (16 x normal speed).

Browser and Data Transfer
just like usual, Samsung work together with Netfront Mobile by it Access browser. This browser could show wap page, mobile web and full web without any problemms. By the accelerometer, browser orientation appearance could be showed into landscape only by rotate the cell phone.

The touch interface actually is not as high as iPhone, but it’s still capable enough to minimalize mistakes in clicking any link. But when we use for tyoing any words, it would be complicated especially if didn’t familiar with virtual keyboard.

Shortcut to Google service ( mail, search, and Google Map) is also available. But the process still use original browser.

Realizing that text input by virtual keyboard would cause more mistakes, S8300 is also provide keypad button. It seems to save more time, but we need to open the slider to show the keypad.

Then for data transfer speed, it support until 7.2 mbps for HDSPA. But for the speed, actually it is depend on our cellullar operator.
Multimedia
S8300 also bring some multimedia features. There are music and video player, FM radio. The quality are quite well including A2DP support for listening audio via bluetooth. Available also audio channel 5.1

GPS
S8300 is also completed with GPS receiver for navigating and geotagging.

Battery
No wonder if S8300 only use 880 mAh battery capacity. It use low power consumption (AMOLED characteristic), and power management in the screen really effective to save more energy. So no wonder, although the HSDPA is being activated and some features are working optimally, this cell phone could stand for 2 days in once charging.
