Nokia 2600 classic vs Sony Ericsson T280i vs LG GB110 vs IMO G388

19 May 2009 | cell phone

The sale of cell phones in the market didn’t work properly until quite recently. This is caused by the financial global crisis which started from United States in 2008 and giving impact to most countries all over the world. The consumens seem to restrained themselves for spending much money to buy expensive cell phones. The same with some popular vendors who restrained to release their high end products and decide to change strategy. Nokia and Sony Ericsson released their low end cell phone compete with the local products. IMO Mobile as a local brand try to compete in the market by launched G388. At least there are 3 others cell phones which have almost equal price, Nokia 2600 classic , Sony EricssonT 280i, and LG GB110. Could IMO G388 win the competition ?

Design comparation
Almost all low end cell phone use candybar design concept, so do with these four cell phones. But they have their own character that make them different. We could find something unique in T280i. The cover is made from metal chrome so it looks impressive. Nokia comes with ergonomical model and covered by gold colour and also exchangeable casing. In LG GB 110, we can see a circle ornament. Then G388 come with simple looks and seems very plastic. But over all, the construction of these cell phones is comfortable enough to be hold.

For keypad structure, these cell phones still pay attention to the prestise factor. 2600 classic show unique keypad design which similar with Siemens CX56/70. there is orange list surround the middle row keypad and d-pad. The plastic material for keypad button is soft and easy to be pushed. Different with GB110and T280i, the keypads design looks strong with clear buttons. Unfortunately, it’s unresponsive and a little bit hard to be pushed. While G388’s texture button is really “low end”, it means that the button looks weak and wobbly. It causes uncomfortable feeling when we are typing sms.

Screen and User Interface
The attracting power of a cell phone cannot be apart from the screen technology. With higher resolution and higher LCD clas, it would be better for a cell phone perform. Based on the specifications, Nokia and Sony Ericsson have TFT 65.536 colours, G388 has TFT 262. 144 colours, then GB110 still use CSTN so the appearance is not as bright as the others. About interface, they are have similar character. GB110’s default screen could showing shortcut menus same with Motorola style, 2600 classic offering two different defaults screen, list and grid. One plus point, Nokia 2600 come with Java platform so we could add some applications except 3D format. IMO G388 is supported by Dual-on technology. As we know, this feature make us possible to split two different cards and operate them together. But unfortunately, this is only work in standby mode. It means, when we get different calls in the same time, the main card could answer and the other could only gives bussy signal.

Camera
Even they have cheap price, but these cell phones have been completed with camera facility. But absolutely the performance is suitable with their prices. Sony Ericssn T280i has 1,3 megapixel camera resolution, while the others are only offering VGA. The facilities are very minim, there are no features to manage the pictures. Photo editor is offered by G388, but it could only resize and crop the files. Usually, low end cell phones camera only could record photo files, but Nokia and G388 could also create video clips. But of course, the result is unsatisfied.

Entertainment
IMO G388 come with external memory, so we could save hundreds music files and videos. Nokia, LG and Sony Ericsson only have FM radio as entertainment side. Although the three cell support MP3 files, but they couldn’t completed with media player. The interesting, in G388 and GB110, we could hear FM radio without set the handsfree first, because those phones have internal antenna to catch radio frequencies.

Internet and connectivity
These cell phone have provide some connection facilities such as Bluetooth and data cable. Only LG GB 110 Nwhich didn’t supported by bluetoooth. It has only data cable for transferring files, but we could make it as mass storage if we connect it with the PC. This performance is also offered by G388. about internet conection, Nokia 2600 classic is the most superior. Because it has supported by EDGE network which better than GPRS. The 2,0 WAP browser could work properly, although still there’s a little problem in accessing the internet.

Memory
There are only two cell phones which provide external memory card. They are GB110 and G 388, but poorly we need to spend more money to get this external memory. Nokia and Sony Ericsson have to be satisfy with their 10 MB internal memory.

Battery
The battery for power supply are made from lithium ion. Only Sony Ericsson which use polimer lithium, absolutely it would gives impact to the battery strength. For once charging, t280i could stand for at least 2,5 days, while the others just stand for 2 days.

Conclusion
If we look at the features, IMO 388 is the most complete. There are camera, music player, Bluetooth, and memory external. But it doesn’t supported by the features quality and the appearance which seems standart. While the other three cell phones come with attractive designs but with only standart facilities.
