Nokia 1661 vs Sony Ericsson T250i
Recently, the market are overwhelmed by Chinese cell phones which have cheaper price. Of course this condition has become a problem for some branded vendors. But this year the branded vendors are playing well in low end market so far. Slow but sure, one by one low budget products are released to compete with Chinese products. These are their latest low end cell phones. Sony Ericsson release their new product Sony ericsson T250i while Finlandia vendor, Nokia release Nokia 1661.
Design
As low end cell phones, Samsung and Nokia try to perform fresher. The classy design material is qualified enough than other low end cell phones. Sony Ericsson come with a candybar model and metal concept. Silver colour is covering the body surface. It looks slim with a firm corners angle. Nokia looks softer with a curve model in the candybar corners. The material has good quality than other cell phones in the same class. Nokia casing are covering with a glossy black colour in ahead and grey in the back side. Brown colour lis surround the cell phone also make the appearance pretty. It looks elegant for a cheap cell phone.
For typing message, Nokia 1661 keypad is made from soft plastic so, it’s very comfortable for the users. The same with Sony Ericsson, T250i could also give comfortabiliy for us because of the big keypad buttons.
Screen and interface
Looking at the screen performance, it seems that they are not different with other competitors. The vendors only give TFT 65 thousands colour LCD display. There’s no plus point here. But if we pay more attention, 1661 is better with 1.8 inch display, while T250i only has 1, 7 inch. The picture display looks similar, sharp and clear enough.
Both have balanced resolution with 128 x 160 pixel. So do with the menus icon and wallpapers. Both still use the same interface with the previous low end series.
Personalization
Entering personalization area, T250i couldn’t gives more than usual standart features. But Nokia 1661 comes with some innovation and complete features.
The standart facilities which are offered by Nokia such as wallpaper, screensaver, themes and brightness level. In this sector, Nokia win the competition. We could see it from the 20 themes choices. Beside that we could manage the scheme colour as we want. This feature make the appearance colour variation is richer. View menu is also offering 2 choices grid and list model. Sony Ericsson only could provide 4 default themes.
For ringtone, both still lose from other cell phone in the same class which could execute MP3 format. T250i and N1661 only could play standart ringtone, we can’t expect more.
Messaging
In the way of messaging function, both are perform whatever they are. There are no email or MMS features. Both just give SMS and picture messaging for sending message.
Camera
It becomes the winning point for T250i than the rival. T250i has integrated camera inside and supported by VGA with 640 x 480 pixel resolution. However, if we look at the position as a low end cell phone, this camera could be a weapon to attract the customers.
When we use the camera, the tight viewfinder could produce a good quality picture even we take it indoor area. So as a VGA cell phone, the quality is satisfy enough. But unfortunately, there’s no editing picture feature.
Entertainment media
We have to realize about their low price, so we have to be satisfy if Sony Ericsson and Nokia only could show limited entertainment facilities. Anyway, both have FM radio as entertaintment side, and it comes with headset in the package. Sony Ericsson has a special button for radio access on navigation panel. On the main button, there is an icon with “FM” symbol as shortcut. While Nokia doesn’t has it, so we have to go to the menu page first to access the radio.
Output sound from Nokia and Sony ericsson is balance. The output is not high pitched but it still clear enough. But the headset has a problem with the radio output because the volume is not sound optimal. The other entertainment facility is game. Sony Ericsson offering Blackdeal, Minigolf, and Quadra Pop. Nokia offering Nature Park, Bounce and Sudoku.
Connectivity and Internet
In this case, only Sony Ericsson could support the connection by infrared, while Nokia doesn’t has at all. The same condition for internet access, Sonny ericsson has web browser that support WAP 1.2.1 and GPRS 10, we can’t expect this from Nokia.
Other feature
Almost there’s no other interesting feature in these cell phones. They’re just come with alarm, calculator and calendar.
Memory
Space for memory is very limited. Nokia’s internal memory space is very minim, while T250i provide 2 MB without external memory.
Battery
Nokia has longer power battery with 860 mAh capacity. Sony Ericsson, the rival only has 780 mAh. For once charging, both could stand for about 2 – 2,5 days.
Conclusion
In the range of 600 thousands rupiah, both have more attractive design than low end cell phones in general. But in contents area, they are still lose than others. But if you like an attractive design cell phone, they could be your choice. Although it would be a message sender and phone facility, at least you could still get entertainment from the radio.
