The impression about CDMA cell phone is usually about the lower communication and SMS rates. So, no wonder if these cell phones only have limited function than GSM handset. The cheap label in the CDMA cell phone is used by many vendors to release low end handset. Samsung have just released CDMA series named Samsung SCH-B259. Let’s compare it with Nokia 1325 CDMA that have been exist before.

Design

Samsung SCH-B259 come with attractive sticky desaign. The body isn’t clumsy because the corner is made spherical, covering with colour combination grey, metallic and black.Different with the rival, Nokia 1325 CDMA look more simply. The candybar model is covering with black colour. The same with it simply function, just for voice and SMS.

Samsung is also completed with metallic navigation button with silver lis ornament.Samsung keypad is more comfortable and soft enough for used, although made from hard plastic. Each button elements make easy for the users.In other side, Nokia composition button need extra energy to be pushed. The soft plastic material cause a little problem because is slicky enough. The little size of navigation button and the softkey in Nokia is also disturbing and difficult to be executed. Samsung come with easier way because it has an OK-option button in the middle of navigation button.

Screen

Talking about the sharpness colour and display, both are in the same level with CSTN 65.000 colours. But Samsung screen is wider than Nokia. About fonts size, both have same character, clear and comfort enough to be read. But for Nokia, it would be a little bit disturbing when we’re typing SMS because of the smaller screen size. So, in this case we could say that Samsung has more value than Nokia.

Appearances

In the menus icon and wallpaper, once again Samsung looks more dynamic. With a grid concept, the icons look more attractive. Different with Nokia which is only appear a monotone list menus. It cause a little bit problem because the users have to check the menus one by one. Of course, it doesn’t seem efficient enough. But fortunately, Nokia provide 8 colour scheme options and also many different wallpapers and screensaver options.

Messaging
For messaging, SCH-B259 and Nokia 1325 are not so different. The vendors only give them with only SMS service. No more functions.

Memory
As a cheap cell phones, the users have to be patient because both could only provide limited memory space. And don’t expect more, because you would never find an external memory in Samsung or Nokia.

Network
Both are only supported by 1x CDMA2000 network with single radio frequency 800 MHz and couldn’t support 1900 MHz frequency.

Brew
Actually, Brew platform could be plus value if it’s available. It could help the users to enjoy value added service such as download or operate the contents and application with Brew basis. Unfortunately, both didn’t applicate it into the cell phones.

Browser
Once again, we used to be disappointed because SCH-B259 and Nokia 1325 didn’t provide the internet facility although this sector could be selling point for make competition with GSM cell phones.

Entertainment Media
SCH-B259 have FM radio as entertainment facility, this could expand the market share in the CDMA market which is minim in entertainment sector. Not only that Samsung also come with headset in one package, so we don’t need to spend more money. The headset quality actually is under the rate but it’s not bad for those who need a little entertaintment. This headset use 2.5 mm jack. The radio perform is promises and could be used as alarm.

Two games are provided in Samsung SCH-B259, they are Gaza and Honey Ball. Nokia didn’t supported by FM radio, but it has 3 games for the users, Blocks, Magic Puzzle and Haunted House.

The other features
Honestly, it’s difficult to find more features from these cell phones. The same features are alarm clock, countdown timer, calculator and calendar. Samsung offering more features such as call reject, offline mode, FM alarm, converter, today to do list, memo pad and world time.

Battery
The battery power from the cell phones are not different. In the capacity and perform, both are similar. They could stand for 2 days– 2.5 days for once charging depend on the operator cellular network condition.
