LG Renoir KC910 finally comes in 8 megapixel camera cell phones competition. Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Virtu-V from Chinese have offered this high resolution camera cell phones first. LG need a longer time to release their product in Indonesia.

At a glance, LG Renoir would remaind us to the previous products, Viewty. It’s because of the touchscreen and the minimum control buttons. Some predict that Renoir would replacing Viewty in the future.

Design
The desaign is square, a little wide but still in a slim candybar mode. Almost all face is dominated by screen, the rest area is filled by three buttons and earpiece. Ahead body is covered by hard plastick with doff effect and the battery is covered by plastic with transparent glass so a little bit slippery. In the battery cover, there’s a camera lens that is covered by turning mechanism. This lens cover is a little difficult to be accessed because of the small size. Beside it, there are flashlight and focus indicator.

Interface
In Renoir KC910, LG give it a touch interface just like in Cookies and Viewty series. The appearance is similar with TouchWiz in Samsung where we could set up the widget in main display including analog clock, digital calendar, music, etc.

The touchscreen has 262144 colours TFT with 240 x 400 pixel (WQVGA) at 3 inch diagonal screen. This is wide enough for our typing acceleration. The shaking feedback methode to access menus would not cause any troubles. It means that it is comfortable enough. Renoir screen quality could only be competed by iPhone 3G and Blackberry Storm. But unusual menu classification probably would be confusing for us. But it would be fine after long usage.

Superiority features

Camera
LG Renoir has a qualified camera with 8 megapixel resolution, Schneider-KREUZNACH lens type. It could produce a picture with 3264 x 2448 pixel maximum resolution. In superfine quality, the picture result will be up to 1.5 until 2mb. It is completed by supported features available in the camera software. There are autofocus, manual focus, makro mode, white balance etc. The focus manual is also easy to do, only by touching the certain point we want and the result is not bad. At least if it’s compared by other 8 megapixel camera cell phones. LG Renoir camera result wouldn’t be so different with Samsung Innov8. But actually Samsung is better with only a little differences. But if we compare it with 8 megapixel Sony Ericsson and Virtu-V camera, definitely LG is one step better. There is no problem for camera indoor usage because it has Xenon flashlight which produce lights to fill the empty space in photo objects. But, it would be better if we keep the distance from the object because the flashlight would be reflected and make the photo too bright.

Beside to get a silent object, Renoir camera could also record video with a great performance. The complete Codec include Divx-Mpeg4 would record video in avi format. There are various framerate such VGA, WQVA, QVGA and smaller resolution for mms. The framerate variation is devided into 3 types 30fps for normal, 120 fps for slow motion and 5 fps for fast motion. We could create an attractive video by this variation. But this facilities absolutely spend much memory.

Other multimedia
Renoir comes with many multimedia features, not only camera, it also gives us a pleasure to enjoy the music. Looking at the appearance, it seems “very LG” where the files shorting well and now playing feature is supported by accurate ID3Tag informations. The sound quality is not bad, no wonder because it has Dolby Mobile technology for producing powerfull sound. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find 3.5 mm audio port here. There’s only handsfree cable, and actually this is not enough for real music lovers.

Next is about the video player. Like a recorder, the video player could show video files in avi divx format but not all kind of this file could be played. Only files with combination between codec video mpeg-4 and codec audio aac/mp3 could be supported. We could also find video editor, FM radio, java game and flash.

Internet and connectivities
Renoir bring 7.2 mbps HSDPA technology. Knowing this, of course there’ll be no problem in downloading media files or watching media streaming. another way to access the internet is by using WIFI network. LG has also prepare a browser that is ready to be used. Bluetooth and data cable are also available with a complete profile and A2DP.

AGPS
We could set up the receive type in satellite information, whether assisted (AGPS) or stand alone without cellular technology helps. In default position, this GPS only be used in the camera as GeoTagging, Google Maps and jogging buddy application.

Battery
LG Renoir use 1000mAh lithium ion battery as power supply. It’s a standart value for a cell phone with many features. Lucky, LG has great power management. In once charging, it could standby for 1.5 days.

Conclusion
Over all, we can’t decide that LG Renoir KC910 is the best multimedia cell phone today. Although it comes with complete camera features and wonderfull touchscreen idea, LG still has minus points in browsing side. It means that we have to use stylus for intens using like internet and menus browsing.
